Joy's little secrets about Sweden

Horseback riding on an Icelandic Horse

Have you a desire to go horseback riding on an Icelandic Horse? I have found a place! I took a solo ride on my birthday, September 9, in Hemfösa. My horse's name was Whisky, and he was an amiable ride. I hadn't riden for 40 years, when I had my own palamino in Sussex, NJ, as a teenager.

I and my tour guide, Jessica, rode down dirt roads, thru open country fields, and a small stretch thru the forest. It was an hour and half ride, but after 30 minutes I wasn't sure if I could last for another hour! But I did! Jessica was very thorough in showing me how to rein in the horse for a trot or the famous tält gait, which is fabulous! You sit still in the saddle, and hardly feel that you are moving - you and the horse are one! The one little problem I had with Whiskey was he preferred to trot, so I would be bouncing and sliding around, but I was laughing, taking it all in stride (pardon the pun!).

Hemfösa Kursgård offers special trail rides on
Saturdays and Sundays, as follows:

9:30am - 3.5 hours - 600kr
